How to play Dot to Dot
Numbered dots are spread across a sheet of paper. Your child taps dot 1, then 2, then 3, and a coloured line joins them up. The next dot to find glows green, a box at the bottom says which number to find, and a faint dotted line points the way. Tapping the wrong number just makes that dot wobble.
When the last dot is joined, the outline fills with colour, gets its details, such as the cat's eyes and whiskers, and the game says what it is. There are six pictures in a set order, each with 15 to 20 dots. The score counts finished pictures, and the game ends after all six.
Tips
- βΈAsk your child to say each number out loud before tapping it. It turns the game into counting practice up to 20.
- βΈIf they can't find the next number, point to the green glowing dot and the dotted guide line rather than tapping for them.
- βΈA few dots before the end, ask what they think the picture will be. Guessing from the outline is half the fun.
- βΈEach dot has a generous tap area, so small fingers don't need to be precise.
Dot to Dot FAQ
- What numbers does it go up to?
- Each picture has between 15 and 20 dots, so children count up to 20 at most. It suits children who are learning to recognise numbers in order.
- What pictures are there?
- Six: a cat, a sailboat, a rocket, a smiling star, a house and a fish. They always come in the same order, so the whole set can be finished in one sitting.
- What if my child taps the wrong dot?
- The dot wobbles and nothing else happens. Only the correct next number joins the line, so there's no way to spoil the picture.
