How to play Gem Crush

Gem Crush is played on an 8 by 8 board of six kinds of gem. Tap a gem, then a neighbour above, below or beside it to swap them, or drag a gem in the direction you want. A swap only counts if it lines up three or more matching gems; otherwise the gems slide back and you keep the move.

Each level sets a target score and a number of moves: 20 on level 1, then two more each level up to 30. Reach the target to move up a level with fresh moves, keeping your score. Run out of moves first and the game ends. If no swap is possible, the board is shuffled for free.

Tips

• ▸Match four in a line to make a striped gem. If it came from a horizontal match it clears its whole row when matched again; from a vertical match, its column.
• ▸Line up five to create a colour bomb. Swap it with any gem to clear every gem of that colour, or swap two bombs together to clear the whole board.
• ▸Stuck for ideas? Wait about six seconds and two gems will pulse to show a swap that works.

How does scoring work in Gem Crush?

Each gem cleared is worth 20 points, plus a bonus of 50 for a four-gem match and 150 for five or more. Cascades from falling gems multiply the points: the second wave scores double, the third triple, and so on.

What score do I need for each level?

Targets add up: 1,000 points for level 1, 2,600 in total for level 2 and 4,800 for level 3, with each step getting bigger.

Does a swap that doesn't match use up a move?

No. The gems swap back and your move count stays the same.
